Thorpe Park Leeds announced as Leeds City Regions headline sponsor for MIPIM UK 2015 and MIPIM 2016

The significant 200 acre mixed-use development is the latest private sector scheme to join the Leeds City Region delegation, demonstrating the confidence and potential in the region to investors, developers and occupiers from the UK and internationally.

Thorpe Park Leeds, which is a joint venture by Scarborough Group International and Legal & General Capital, will be represented in a packed programme of activity that will focus on investment, development and occupier opportunities across the city region around logistics, residential and transport developments. In addition, Leeds City Region will once again unite with the core cities of the north of England to showcase the scale and potential around the Northern Powerhouse to the influential audience.

Phase two of Thorpe Park Leeds has consent for a mixed-use scheme of 1.35m sq ft of business, retail and leisure space, and in addition 300 new homes. Preparation work is already underway to deliver a new 250,000 sq. ft. retail and leisure complex, up to 60,000 sq. ft. of high quality office accommodation, the first phase of 300 new homes, and a 113 acre public park with sports facilities. Thorpe Park Leeds is set to create a further 13,000 local jobs while potentially unlocking the construction of 7,000 new homes in the East Leeds area through the construction of the first section of the East Leeds Orbital Road, a key piece of road infrastructure.

Mark Jackson of Scarborough Group International, commented: With major investment secured through partnering with Legal & General Capital we are now progressing apace to deliver the second phase at Thorpe Park Leeds. This project will bring enormous economic prosperity to East Leeds and we are pleased to join Leeds City Region at MIPIM to present a scheme that is a leading example of regional potential.

Laura Mason, Director of Direct Investments at Legal & General Capital, said: Thorpe Park Leeds is a shining example of what can be achieved through positive public and private sector engagement, demonstrating that through a joined up approach we can bring about transformational large scale urban regeneration and economic growth. In the Leeds City Region and Scarborough Group International we have forward-thinking partners and we want to work with them to unlock further investment opportunities and encourage other investors into the region through important platforms like MIPIM UK.

Roger Marsh OBE, chair of Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP), added: Our City Region is in the midst of a transformation, ensuring that it is not only relevant and prepared for tomorrow but that we are leading the way and deliver on our potential to be the powerhouse of the north. With this in mind its crucial that we, as the UKs largest city region economy outside of London, have a presence at the leading property forum in the country, MIPIM UK and MIPIM 2016 next March.

Im delighted to welcome Thorpe Park Leeds to the City Regions ever growing private sector delegation for the three day exhibition. As the recent recipient of over 160 million of funding and the first project delivered since the start of Legal & Generals Regeneration Investment Organisation (RIO) partnership, launched at 10 Downing Street in January, the scheme provides a fantastic example of opportunity that exists in Leeds City Region.

Now, as we prepare to make the journey to the capital, Im buoyed to hear the confidence that representatives from both the public and the private sector have in our region and look forward to this renewed vigour; a result perhaps of no longer only talking about cranes on the skyline, but also about tangible opportunities such as The HD One in Huddersfield, The Broadway in Bradford and Shilling Hill in Wakefield; being contagious amongst the investor, developers and occupiers who will be present.

Leeds City Regions presence at MIPIM UK is led by the LEP and is also delivered in partnership with private sector businesses HD One, CEG and Shulmans LLP. Public sector representatives from across Leeds City Region will also be attending MIPIM UK, in order to demonstrate the strength of the public-private partnership that is helping to shape the future of the UKs largest city region economy.
