Preparing for a changing relationship with Europe

The first workshop will be held at Squire Patton Boggs on 25th September in Leeds and will focus on HR and employment.

It will look at issues such as the HR management of EU nationals already working for the business, sending staff to work in EU countries and access to skilled staff after the changes.

Roger Marsh OBE, Chair of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) said:

Its great to be running this series of events in partnership with the Department for International Trade (DIT) and the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) this autumn. We want local business people to get the latest thinking about the changing relationship with Europe and ask the questions that matter most to the future of their business. If you currently trade in Europe, or are looking into it, I encourage you to come along.

Supinder Sian, Partner in Labour and Employment at Squire Patton Boggs said:

We are delighted to be involved in this event as we are major stakeholders in the Leeds City Region and Northern Powerhouse and fully support the work of DiT, EEN and the LEP.

We have been at the forefront of business immigration and employment issues for some time and produced reports looking at the UK and EU relationship in key the sectors of manufacturing, retail and automotive. The recent publication of the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) final report on EEA migration means this event is very timely.

The EU is the UKs largest trading partner. In 2017 this market accounted for 45 per cent of all UK exports. A recent LEP report showed that Leeds City Regions international trade was worth an estimated 9.75 billion, 67 per cent of total value of Yorkshire and Humber goods exported.

In August, the government revealed Yorkshire is the top exporter of manufacturing goods outside of London. Official figures show that for every 10,000 residents in Yorkshire in 2017, there were 22 exporting companies more per person than anywhere else in the Northern Powerhouse as well as more than Scotland and Wales. Between 2016 and 2017, exports from Yorkshire also surged by 14 per cent - the strongest growth from across the Northern Powerhouse.

Future events are taking place at venues across the region in October, November and December and will look at contracts and legal issues, e-commerce and IT, export procedures and customs regulations and finally, ensuring payment. Events can be booked here: .
