MIPIM 2015 A Review

The week got off to a flying start as Tom Riordan, chief executive of Leeds City Council announced Carillion as the HCA�s preferred developer for Tower Works in the South Bank while opening Leeds and Sheffield City Regions' shared stand with James Newman, chairman of Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership.

The announcements kept coming throughout the week, with senior representatives from across the city region launching the Big Six investment ready opportunities across Leeds City Region to the international investment audience, before Wellington Place, the delegation�s headline partner for the week, announced it was breaking ground on 5 Wellington Place, a five-storey building offering 75,000 sq ft of grade A office space in Leeds city centre.

The packed programme also included discussions on the growth potential of transport hubs, during which Arup�s early vision for both Leeds Station and York Central was outlined. Before the final city region business briefing of the week, which featured Roger Marsh, chair of Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (The LEP) along with senior representatives from four other core northern cities, Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield and Newcastle, discussing the importance of investing in the Northern Powerhouse.

Roger commented, ""People are waking up to the fact that the North is not the problem but the solution to the UK's debt problems. Together, the North equates to 80% of London's economy, despite not yet fulfilling its economic potential. It is clear that with the right mix of reforms, powers and fiscal devolution, the opportunity to drive extraordinary growth is not only significant but critical to the future fortunes of our country.""
