Leeds Campaigns for Capital of Culture 2023

The bid, backed by the University of Leeds, will see the city build upon the range of cultural events which have taken place recently, or are scheduled for the coming months, including the Grand D�part, British Art Show 8, Rugby World Cup 2015 and the Leeds International Piano Competition.

If successful, the city will host a year-long programme of cultural events, which has the potential to bring a spectacle and opportunities to participate to a very large number of people. In turn, this will continue to raise the profile of the city as an exciting and vibrant destination, while also acting as a catalyst for economic and social development.

As a city with a strong cultural sector year-round, with a number of art galleries, museums and an array of theatres which host Northern Ballet and Opera North, Leeds is now looking for further support from its cultural organisations and attractions, as well as from the city�s local and business communities.

An expression of interest must be submitted by December 2016, with the final bid submitted during 2017 and the winning city will be announced in 2018.
