Celebrate Yorkshire creativity this Yorkshire Day
1)Worms
Originally released by Wakefield based Team 17 in 1995, the game has since had 23 games in its main series across almost every platform, the most recent being Worms W.M.D released in 2016.
2)The Syndicate
Written by the amazing Kay Mellor - who is currently supporting Leeds City Region�s #4Sparks campaign to bring Channel 4 to the region � the episodic drama which is available on Netflix follows the lives of workers whose lives are transformed by a big lottery win.
3)Chocolat
Shortlisted for the Whitbread Prize and a winner of the Whittaker Gold and Platinum Awards (2001 and 2012), this novel by Barnsley born Joanne Harris has been praised by readers and critics alike.
4)The Yorkshire Dales and The Lakes
The region is synonymous with its areas of berath taking natural beauty which have inspired artists, authors and directors for generations. This series which is available on Channel 4�s All4 has been produced by True North and celebrates two of the country�s most cherished National Parks.
5)�71
A film about a young disoriented British soldier whose life is put in grave danger after he is separated from his unit on the streets of Belfast at the height of the troubles in 1971. It was supported by Screen Yorkshire and won Best Director at the 2014 British Independent Film Awards.
6)Broken Sword
Another video game made in the region, this time by York based Revolution Software. This adventure game is again available on everything from iOS to Xbox One. It importantly also holds the Record for the �Longest running graphic adventure protagonist according to Guinness World Records.
7)The History Boys
The comedy which was written by Allan Bennett has toured the world and even been made into a film starring James Corden. Some critics have claimed the film is better than the original play others have stated something is lost in the cut, we�ll let you decide for yourself.
8)The Bront�s
It�s impossible to pick a favourite from these talented sisters, who wrote the classics Jane Eyre (Charlotte), Wuthering Heights (Emily) and Agnes Grey (Anne), but as it�s the 200th anniversary of Emily�s birth this week the creator of Cathy and Heathcliffe deserves a special mention. The Bront�s impact on literature is undeniable and these books have certainly earnt the right to be called �best sellers� having been first published in 1847.
