27.5m university building well under way in Huddersfield
The 7,500 square metre, six-storey building will be developed in a prime campus location opposite the Shorehead roundabout between Queensgate and Wakefield Road in the town.
The 27.5 million building will provide a new home for the universitys Law School and the School of Music, Humanities and Media, as well as linking into the universitys Student Central Building which was completed in January 2014.
The building has been designed to complement existing buildings within the university including both Student Central and the adjacent Creative Arts Building.
Chris Brown, operations director at Morgan Sindalls Leeds office, said: This is a key building for both the university and the town. It is a fantastic project to be involved with and our appointment builds on the existing relationship we have with the University of Huddersfield.
We very much look forward to getting on site and creating this amazing building which will mark Huddersfield out as a forward-thinking town.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bob Cryan said: We are delighted to be working with Morgan Sindall on the latest major development to our campus. The University is committed to ensuring that we provide the best possible environment for the growing number of students who choose to study here and contribute so positively to the local economy. We are also committed to our town, and are very pleased to be able to work with local businesses on a building that will take such a prominent place in the Huddersfield landscape.
Upon completion, by the beginning of 2017, the building will provide new teaching space including large tiered lecture theatres.
The eye-catching building, which will provide a new gateway building to both the university and the town centre was granted planning consent by Kirklees Council in April 2015.
A 27.5m new landmark university teaching facility in Huddersfield town centre is underway, as construction firm Morgan Sindall is appointed to the build.
