We are proud to host key business and Government from our partner Chinese cities. We have welcomed numerous delegations, including the Chinese Olympic team.

We are proud to welcome delegations from China to Leeds City Region to build on the great friendships which exist between our region and key cities in China.

The City Region is also home to a number of major Chinese-owned business operations. We are delighted that these businesses call Leeds City Region home:

Hisense

  • Leeds is home to the UK headquarters of Hisense, who have their global HQ in Qingdao. This major international technology company employs over 80,000 people worldwide, manufacturing high quality TVs and white goods, as well as creating innovative smart city solutions.
  • Hisense has enjoyed incredible growth from their Leeds base, and are regularly ranked as one of the fastest growing businesses in Yorkshire and the UK. Their turnover has increased from £1.5million in 2012, to well over £100million, achieving a 30% year on year growth.

Dahua

  • Video surveillance giant Dahua Technology expanded its UK presence in September 2018, opening a new office in Leeds. This is the first time that Dahua – the world’s second-largest video surveillance solutions manufacturer – has expanded in the UK beyond its offices in Maidenhead, Berkshire.
  • Dahua Technology’s global headquarters in China is located in Hangzhou, a city that has been twinned with Leeds since 1988. 

OSO Polymers

  • OSO Polymers, established their new 90,000 square foot headquarters and refurbished plastics plant in Leeds in 2019, with extensive expansion plans. The company takes waste plastics and re-processes them back into raw polymer pellets for re-use.

PowerLink

  • Powerlink is headquartered in Shanghai and has a manufacturing facility in Selby. Powerlink UK has been located in Selby since 2010, and manufacture and engineer high value generators, compressors and turbo chargers.
  • The region is home to their only manufacturing facility outside China and services the Middle East, African and EU markets.

Silver Cross – owned by Fosun Group

  • Skipton is home to the headquarters of world leading nursery brand, Silver Cross, who are owned by Shanghai headquartered global investment group, Fosun.
  • Silver Cross is one of the industry’s biggest exporters worldwide and develops innovative prams and nursery products from its Leeds City Region base.
  • The company is known for producing the “RollsRoyce of prams” and the name Silver Cross has long been associated with royalty, first supplying a pram for King George VI, and more recently for Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

  1. UK’s largest Tech event welcomes participation from Hangzhou

    Leeds Digital Festival is the largest Tech event in the UK and attracts attendees from around the world. A delegation of senior business and government leaders from Hangzhou participated in several events and explored opportunities for collaboration projects.

  2. Zhejiang manufacturing delegation visits Huddersfield

    The 3M Buckley Innovation Centre hosted a manufacturing innovation workshop for companies from Zhejiang. Discussion took place on the future of manufacturing, focusing on lean manufacturing, future metrology, and precision engineering.

  3. Leeds City Region Leaders visit Chinese Consulate

    Consul General, Dr Sun Dali, invited Leeds City Region leaders to his residence to discuss Northern Powerhouse-China relations. The meeting was followed by a business roundtable with Chinese businesses and investors.

  4. Leeds City Region welcomes Consul General

    Consul General, Dr Sun Dali, visited Leeds City Region with the key representatives of major Chinese businesses who have invested in the UK. The delegation met with business leaders from across the region to explore opportunities for collaboration.
